B0[BM]39ITT1 – Intermediální tvorba a technologie I

Katedra počítačové grafiky a interakce

Úvod - Anotace

Unikátní dvousemestrový předmět (ITT1, ITT2) organizovaný společně pedagogy z ČVUT, AMU a UMPRUM.

Předmět nabídne studentům z oblastí techniky a umění základní orientaci v možnostech, pojmech a přístupech, s nimiž pracují technicky nebo naopak umělecky orientovaní studenti. Formou práce je rozvíjení diskusí v rámci seminářů získávání praktických zkušeností v rámci dílen a podstatnou součástí procesu bude vytvoření mezioborových týmů a vznik konceptů a projektů. Část projektů pak bude možné v letním semestru realizovat v rámci další části - předmětu Intermediálni tvorba a technologie II.

  • Umělecká tvorba v kontextu environmentálního a zvukového umění

  • Zvuková tvorba s interaktivními prvky, prostorový zvuk, zvuková socha.

  • Základy použití různých programovacích prostředí.

  • Základy interaktivních systémů / physical computing / senzory / propojení různých médií.

  • Performance

To vše v kontextu současných i v historii realizovaných projektů z oblasti intermédií a příbuzných oblastí.

English version

Introduction - Annotation

A unique two-semester course (ITT1, ITT2) jointly organized by pedagogues from CTU, AMU and UMPRUM. The course is offered in the entire faculty offer of FEL ČVUT and at FAMU, DAMU, HAMU and UMPRUM.

The aim of the subject is to create one of the interdisciplinary platforms that will make available selected knowledge and procedures at the border of technology and creation in the field of multimedia, interaction and IoT. The course will offer students from the fields of technology and art a basic orientation in the possibilities, concepts and approaches with which technically or, conversely, artistically oriented students work. The form of work is the development of discussions within seminars, gaining practical experience within workshops, and an essential part of the process will be the creation of interdisciplinary teams and the creation of concepts and projects. Part of the projects will then be possible to implement in the summer semester within the next part - the subject Intermedia creation and technology II.

The goal of studying the ITT course is to support communication skills between students with different orientations and different ways of thinking. The mutual contact of artistically and technically oriented students should then lead to a broadening of the view of the same problems and the world around us in general.

The subject takes place in the joint workplace of AMU and CTU - of the Institute of Intermedia, which is equipped for the implementation of joint art-technological projects. Institute of Intermedia

Subject content

General

The content of the subject is a selection of topics that form a comprehensive knowledge space necessary for the creation of an intermediate application/work. One to two afternoon 3-hour blocks will be devoted to each topic. The topic is usually introduced by a lecture dealing with the context, principles and specific possibilities of the commonly used technology. The lecture is extended by a space for discussion on the given topic. The goal of the discussion is to more broadly develop considerations about the presented technologies from the creator's point of view. The discussion is then followed by a practical part, the content of which is the joint implementation of one or more tasks or simple installations using the given tools. The intention is to create a space for experimentation, not a complete work. At the end of the semester, students will be introduced to topics for assigning projects for implementation in the summer semester.

In this year

The concept of this year's Intermedia creation course is led by Michal Kindernay from FAMU and is focused on interdisciplinary dialogue and current environmental topics in connection with creative artistic disciplines and techniques. It aims to develop in students not only critical awareness of ecological challenges, but also artistic sensitivity and the ability to communicate complex ideas in the form of visual, sound and performance art through various technologies.

Eco level theme – we will examine the theme of the water element through critical aspects of the contemporary world. Water as a symbol of scarcity, pollution and exploitation of natural resources. Water as an essential element of life, an irreplaceable part of the ecosystem and the human body. Water as a mirror of ecological problems and social inequalities and our relationship with nature.

The theme is also related to other types of liquid forms, other transitional phases between solids and gases, atmospheric pressures, disturbances, abnormalities, extremes, weather, climate and everything that affects ourselves and our existence on Earth. Students will explore how art and ecology can be connected, how artistic outputs can communicate, influence, inspire or support environmental awareness.

Lectures, discussions and workshops focused on principles and technologies appropriate to the subject will take place within the course. We will also focus on research and creative methods for an interdisciplinary approach, contexts, theoretical and historical connections. The subject is intended for all disciplines and its intention is to connect them, to include all students in collaborative projects, to make them each contribute with their work, expertise and experience.

Form & Outputs

The starting point for the creation of performances and performative installations is the poetic and conscious use of technology with an emphasis on its ecological footprint, relevance, reflection and our responsibility and criticality towards it. We will emphasize harmony between technology and its forms with regard to our planet. To achieve our final outputs, we will follow the path of research, studies of selected topics and approaches. The output will be a collective sound installation with visual extensions / a series of sound interventions and performances / a thematically composed program. The output will take place in the DISK theater or in the gallery space (GHMP).

Conditions for obtaining graded assessment

The subject is finished with a graded assessment awarded on the basis of a joint evaluation by the teaching team. Grading is based on the project concept submitted at the end of the semester and is influenced by attendance and activity during the semester. For art students, the outputs of their work can later be applied in the form of final projects. It is assumed that students will use the possibility of interdisciplinary cooperation during the design and subsequent solving of tasks. Minimum participation in seminars and workshops is 80% (max. 3 absences).

Enrollment of a student in a subject is limited by the capacity of the subject. No entry knowledge from fields that the student is not studying is uniformly required. On the contrary, adequate knowledge of the field that the student is currently studying is assumed.
